2026 Conceptual UX/UI Interactive Data Visualization Figma Prototype

Listening Home

Your algorithm becomes an architecture of your listening behavior.

Context
Listening Home is a conceptual mobile app that transforms personal music-listening patterns from Spotify into a digital living space.

Familiar listening habits furnish the home, while musical exploration expands its physical boundaries.

Through this system, abstract listening data becomes a spatial representation of personal behavior, reflecting how we shape and are shaped by recommendation algorithms.

01
CONCEPT

What if your music taste became a place you could live in?

Music streaming platforms use listening histories to personalize recommendations, often reinforcing established preferences while also introducing new discoveries. Over time, these interactions contribute to the development of our musical identities.

Listening Home explores this relationship by turning music consumption into a tangible, evolving environment.

Rather than presenting listening data through conventional statistics and charts, the project uses the metaphor of a home to visualize how familiar behaviors accumulate and how new experiences expand our musical boundaries.

Design Question

How might we transform invisible listening patterns into a physical representation of our relationship with music recommendation algorithms?

02
THE EXPERIENCE

A home shaped by your listening habits.
Every user begins with an empty 1×1 home. As they listen to music, the space evolves with them. Familiar listening patterns introduce new objects and decorations, while musical exploration expands the home's boundaries.

Each change contributes to a monthly House Bill, transforming listening data into a tangible reflection of the user's musical habits.

03
SYSTEM DESIGN

Do you cultivate or explore your music taste?

Listening Home is built around two listening behaviors: Cultivation and Exploration.
Each behavior influences the digital home's appearance and spatial structure.

01. Cultivation
Repetition builds familiarity.

  • As users repeatedly listen to familiar artists, genres, and songs, their digital home becomes increasingly furnished and decorated.

  • Each object represents a reinforced listening pattern, reflecting how recommendation algorithms strengthen existing preferences and create a familiar, personalized environment.

02. Exploration
Discovery expands possibility.

  • Starting from a 1×1 square, the digital home physically expands as users explore unfamiliar artists, genres, and diverse listening patterns.

  • This spatial growth symbolizes breaking beyond algorithmic repetition and expanding the boundaries of one's musical identity.

03. House Bill

Every listening habit carries a value.

  • Each object and spatial expansion is assigned a fictional monetary value, contributing to a monthly House Bill.

  • By translating accumulated listening behaviors into an itemized bill, the system invites users to reflect on the value of their habits and the digital environments those habits create.

04
INTERFACE DESIGN

Making the invisible visible.

The interface translates listening behavior into an evolving, isometric home. Instead of navigating conventional music statistics, users can observe their habits through objects, spatial arrangements, and environmental changes.

01. The Living Home
The home acts as the central visualization, changing in response to different listening patterns.

02. Objects as Listening Data
Each decorative object corresponds to a listening behavior. Selecting an object reveals the musical data it represents, including genres, listening activity, and its assigned value.

03. Monthly House Bill
An accumulated total brings together the values of the home's objects and expanded space, creating a playful way to reflect on listening behavior over time.

04. Spatial Expansion
The home's floor plan grows with musical exploration, allowing users to visualize changes in the diversity of their listening habits.

05
REFLECTION

Making Listening Behavior Tangible

Listening Home explores how invisible patterns of digital behavior can be translated into something tangible and personal.

By transforming repetition into objects and exploration into spatial growth, I explored how interaction design can communicate complex relationships between users, their habits, and the algorithms that influence them.

The project challenged me to think beyond conventional data visualization and consider how space, interaction, and visual metaphors can turn abstract information into an experience that invites curiosity and reflection.
